Bosco, Vera & Shadow - Basic Obedience, Behavior Modification

"Level 10+ chaos.  And then Alyssa and Liberty show up.  Shadow, the one responsible for “The Call”, laying calm and still on the floor, just listening as Alyssa asks what our goals are, having Book Club without the Level 10 chaos, what we want to get out of the training and us listening to her explain her process and the why’s behind it. All the while she is working her magic with Shadow.  Keep in mind, our other two dogs are going berserk, locked in a room just a few feet away. And then there’s Shadow, still just calm and collected despite the noise and "stranger danger” , including Liberty on her “spot”, nearby.   I almost couldn’t hear Alyssa, just dumbfounded at Shadow’s calm demeanor. And star struck at how in under 30 minutes Alyssa backed up her process.  After what we just witnessed sign us up!  Prior to Alyssa entering our lives, we couldn’t get thru an evening of TV without 3-4-5 barking outbursts triggered by some sound, be it a back up beeper, a phone ringing, etc.. Delivery trucks, activity 2 streets over common conversation could be reason enough to set them off.  Within a few trainings we started to see a difference. Granted, it is not easy being so diligent with the corrections, or outlasting their  stubbornness, but the results were there.  Alyssa does a great job of explaining the reasoning behind the different training sessions. Seeing the difference in behaviors- both human and four legged, gave validation that her processes and instructions - along with our diligence in the trainings and correction/redirects was well worth our investment in the training.  We are several weeks out from Alyssa’s last visit and we have several “success” stories, whether they involve the dogs behaving calmly when confronted by an aggressive acting dog while out with the dog walkers, to the calmness of them hanging out on their spots and TV sounds now being a non factor for them.  And Book Club was held and it was Level 1 chaos. "Alyssa was fantastic. This is my first dog so I'm just learning how to properly train. We did all the classroom training and she was a smart student, but I had a hard time translating that to when we were at home and outside of the classroom. Enter Alyssa via recommendation from someone at my gym. Wow I've learned so much and now feel like I have a blueprint to curb the problem behaviors I was experiencing. We still have a lot of work to do, but I feel like I have the background and pointers to get there if I keep at it consistently. Weiland and Ralph - Behavior Modification

"Alyssa's training was life changing. Our reactive shepherd was so over anxious all the time and he learned how to remain calm in his down-stay during normally reactive situations. Our Dane mix was overactive and uncontrolled on the leash and took me for a ride down the sidewalk. After his training, not only does he not pull me anymore, He will walk around the neighborhood right next to me “off leash” (I put on his 20-foot lead). "We contacted Alyssa because our husky was super anxious, reactive and a poor listener. We could not leave him home alone for any length of time without him trying to break out and hurt himself. Alyssa came out to our house, met our family and listened as we described our challenges. At the end, she worked through some basic drills and began to explain the philosophy. Unlike other trainers, Alyssa sees dogs as family members and not robots. They acknowledge this fact and work it in to how they approach training. Alyssa provided us with everything we needed to know (about the tools, the proper technique for correction and how to build trust with our dog). She was prompt and friendly through all of our training sessions, offering criticism when needed and encouragement when warranted. She empowered us to help our dog be more relaxed and a better listener. After only a month of sessions (only two one-hour sessions a week), our dog was completely changed. No more pulling on his leash during walks, completely off-leash trustworthy (he would have previously bolted the second you let him off of a leash), much calmer around other dogs and animals and, as of recently, capable of being left home alone. Alyssa is hands down the BEST dog trainer in Southern New Hampshire! We reached out to her to help train our 1 year old puppy Hazel, who is an Australian Shepard / Bernese Mountain Dog mix. Before working with Alyssa, Hazel was IMPOSSIBLE to take on short walks down our street. I remember wrapping the leash around my hips to keep Hazel from pulling, but that wasn’t effective or sustainable. We watched so many YouTube videos and bought so much gear, but nothing seemed to help. After doing our research on dog training programs and hearing other testimonials, we reached out to Alyssa knowing she came highly recommended.

"Alyssa has brought so much peace to our lives! We adopted our Dog, Harvey, in December from a rescue, where he was previously returned due to behavior. "There are not enough words to describe how wonderful Alyssa is and how effective the training was. My friend and vets office recommended Alyssa O’Donnell for training. Alyssa was exceptional and my dog loved her so much. She made training such a positive experience for me and my dog that we both looked forward to sessions. Background: We got Ellie 7 weeks ago after losing both of our dogs within 6 months. I was grieving hard and deeply saddened when Ellie arrived. Ellie came in like a wrecking ball- she had ZERO training or manners (at age 1.5). It was difficult for us to bond and I had no hope. Ellie was extremely anxious, destructive, had accidents, and reactive to other dogs; in addition, she was resource guarding. As soon as Ellie began training I started noticing changes in her behavior. Fast forward, today was Ellie’s graduation day.. she is a COMPLETELY different dog. She is happy, calm, and well mannered. "We were referred to Alyssa from our vet when we took our then 5 month old Golden-doodle, Cooper for a regular visit and I expressed my concerns about his behavior. I was hesitant in calling since I thought it was a failure to not be able to get him to listen on my own. After talking about it we decided to call to have an evaluation done. Alyssa came to our home to talk to us about our concerns and to see our interactions with Cooper and his with us. It was not even a question after meeting her to sign him up for her program. Cooper is a completely different dog now and we are so happy we completed this program with him. The training was a lot to remember so practice was key. It is an investment in your pet and yourself to complete this program. I saw the changes in him and confidence grow week to week. It is 100% worth every penny and minute we spent on this to see Cooper live a more calm and happy life with the family. "We came to Alyssa with our eight month old, Blue Heeler rescue. He came to us with A LOT of anxiety of other dogs and humans. We started Basic Obedience training within a week and a half of getting him and it’s been the BEST thing we could have done for our pup!! He has done a complete 180 degrees turn from the dog we picked up from the rescue. He has become calm, rooted and relaxed in an array of situations. Between seeing other dogs in our neighborhood to hearing people walking past, there is no more growling, barking or out right freaking out on his leash as to these distractions. I’m absolutely floored at his transformation! (I will say it came with its resistance and challenging moments in the mists of the PROCESS. "I met Alyssa when working at my animal hospital and I found her on social media and realized quickly she was a professional dog trainer! I had been wanting to send my four year old German shepherd back to training after trying two times when she was younger. Nothing seemed to stick with her and she didn’t have structure or confidence. She was a very anxious dog and would cower at noises and follow me around the house crying. She was very reactive to dogs and other people, and started having to be medicated for vet appointments.

When we had our first session I knew that Kaia was going to come out a different dog. Charlie - Behavior Modification

"We adopted our dog Charlie in Dec 2023 and thought we had done all the "right" things. We read the books, we included the kids for consistency, and we enrolled Charlie in puppy classes right away. But none of that mattered. Charlie did all the usually puppy things, but it didn't seem like the training helped. He wouldn't focus in class and spent most of the time barking and pulling. Don't get me wrong, all Charlie wanted to do was jump in your lap and give you kisses, but it was impossible to teach this loud, wiggly puppy. He was full of this frantic energy. 

This all translated to stuff at home. He was a sweet puppy but honestly, a chaos creator. He woke up every morning from 2-5am and hated his crate. We struggled a lot as a family. After 12 weeks we realized that Charlie was not succeeded in traditional classes.

Enter Alyssa. She was recommended to me by a coworker who told me if I was really ready to fix the problem, she could help. At our first consultation I was embarrassed at how Charlie behaved (he barked the whole time, kept trying to jump on her, get on the table etc) Alyssa was so calm and sweet. She was not judgmental in any way. Listening to her talk about her dog, Remy, I could tell she had been there. 

Training with Alyssa has been an amazing experience. She has allowed us all to enjoy Charlie so much more. My girls can walk Charlie alone (without all those red marks from him pulling), I can leave the house and know he won't continually bark in his crate, but most importantly it really seems as though she has taught Charlie how to relax. Of course, he is still a puppy and does puppy things, but he no longer has that same frantic, anxious energy he once had. He is much more calm and chill.

"I would absolutely recommend Alyssa to anyone in need of dog training! Our dog Lana is older (10 yo) and has always been reactive to other dogs but she LOVES people/kids. We tried training in the past to help with her aggression but it didn’t help. Fast forward to our baby being born last year. Our dog was fine in the beginning months. She was more indifferent to our son than anything but once he started becoming mobile (standing, crawling, walking), Lana was defensive and would bark constantly which truly was a surprise to us.
